What is a Holy Communion Veil?
A communion veil is worn as part of the traditional outfit worn by girls when celebrating their first holy communion. The first communion veil is a traditional female head covering usually worn during the holy communion mass. It is a sign of humility before God, modesty and reverence.
The tradition of the Holy Communion Veil
The exact origins of the wearing a veils for the first communion is shrouded in mystery. Historically Roman and Christian women always covered their heads – a custom which still remains in many countries where Muslim religion predominates. Today it is purely a matter of choice with many girls choosing to wear a veil as part of their communion accessories while headbands, ribbons, floral crowns and tiaras are also popular.
Are all communion veils white?
Children receiving their holy communion almost always wear white, a colour which symbolizes purity. There has been an increased trend in recent years to introduce dresses and veils of pale ivory. A conservative and modest style of dress is essential for this religious service but there are many beautiful communion dress designs available that will reflect her personality.

When should I come for a communion veil appointment ?
The communion season takes place between April and May of each year. As soon as you have chosen your communion dress you are welcome to book an appointment to explore your communion veil design.
How long in advance do I need to Order?
All of the bespoke communion veils are designed, made and sewn to order. In peak season we will be working on orders 6-8 weeks in advance. It is best to book your appointment once you have chosen your communion dress and we can start the design process.
